YMusic V4 is the independent app distributed through ymusic.io and its linked GitHub repository. YouTube Music is Google’s separate service. They have different publishers, account behavior, installation routes and membership rules.

Check identity before features
YMusic V4’s Android package is io.ymusic.android. The older V3 app used com.kapp.youtube.final. Other Play Store or App Store applications called YMusic may belong to different developers, so compare the publisher and source link before using their reviews or instructions.
“YTMusic” usually means Google’s YouTube Music in searches. It is a separate product. This publication is independent of both the YMusic project and Google.
Background music and podcasts have different rules
Google’s documentation lists background play, audio-only listening and downloads among YouTube Music Premium features. It also notes that most podcasts can play in the background without membership. Product experiences may vary by country or region.
YMusic’s publisher describes background audio with the screen off. That is an app feature claim rather than an entitlement to Google’s paid service. For YMusic audio that stops after locking, use the background playback guide.
Do not confuse a file with a service download
The YMusic publisher describes offline saving and adding local folders to its Library. A playlist reference, an unfinished download and a completed audio file are separate things. Check the actual output and play it in the player you intend to use.
The publisher’s release notes describe MP3 conversion and original-stream handling for other offered formats. The format comparison explains the quality and storage trade-offs without assuming every source offers every choice.
Google’s offline-listening rules apply inside YouTube Music and can differ for music, podcasts and location. Follow Google’s current offline documentation for that service.
Choose with your own priorities in mind
Choose Google’s YouTube Music if you want its supported service experience and current membership benefits. Check the offer in your region; this guide does not quote a subscription price.
If you are evaluating YMusic V4, start with the source and permissions record, then use the publisher’s build for your platform. Its release page has macOS files for Apple Silicon and Intel. The publisher website still marks Windows, Linux and iOS as upcoming, so source-code folders for those platforms should not be mistaken for a released installer.
For an iPhone search, read the iPhone compatibility explanation. For Android installation or a move from V3, use the relevant guide before removing an existing app.
